What is philosophy? (2nd Week)

After reading the introduction to Barry and Stephenson & Haberman, discuss: What is philosophical thinking? Why is it valuable? Why is it difficult?

  1. Well philosophy is the love of knowledge. Philosophy allows you to take a lot from the world from a different view than that of the common man. I believe philosophy is a very valuable field of study. Being open to the world like many philosophers allows you to get a lot more from the world; more than what you would get if you weren't as open to the experiences of life.
Philosophy is difficult because a lot of the major philosophical works that we study are in different words and type of speak than that we are use to. Philosophy is a very difficult field of study in the fact that you cannot take some of the philosophical works as literal. Some wiggle room in the definitions in philosophy is there. Philosophy is fun and very interesting; we just need more people to open there eyes to the world of philosophy.
