Your Education (2nd week)

Find a prompt below which speaks to you and comment on it:
1. Reflect on your expectations for this class. How might you be able to contribute to class discussion? How could you be well prepared? How can you be an active participant in class? Active participant on-line?
2. Consider the other classes in your fall schedule. Where do they overlap? Do you expect to get more out of certain classes because you are taking them at the same time as other classes?
3. What experiences in your life do you anticipate impacting your interest in this course? Do you have any suggestions to link your life experiences with course material/topics?
4. At this point, what are your general thoughts about human nature?
5. Generally, why are you in school? Specifically, why are you in this class? Do you think you would take more philosophy if money/time weren't factors? Explain.
6. What are you learning (in this class or others) about yourself as a student? Are you willing to work hard at your studies? Why? What motivates you?

  1. I really didn't know what to expect from this class when I saw it on my schedule. Originally I thought I signed up for human nature, but I guess that got changed to this. At that same time, I lost a close friend of mine and then noticed that on my class schedule that this was about death and dying. I didn't really know what to think. I agree with Sam in that I am not going to just agree with people just to not talk. However, I can be on the quiet side in class, but really I like to listen to what others have to say because it then makes me question what I feel. I really hope this class helps me process my opinion on the matter. I am glad I am in this class because you never get to talk about things like this so maybe thats why I don't know how I feel about it yet

  2. In considering my other classes they overlap quite a bit. This would be because I am taking 15 hours of philosophy. Philosophy overlaps a lot because of the fact that philosophy is everlasting. Philosophy can be applied in all situations in life. Just taking a philosophical view towards the world will open your eyes and broaden your horizons.

  3. I'm in school because any job in history requires a masters at minimum. And because my family never really thought about me (and my 2 brothers) not going to college. Both of my parents were the first (and in my mom's case, the only one) in their families to go to college, and as a result they place heavy emphasis on education.
I'm in this class because it fulfills a requirement for one of my majors. Also, I love taking random philosophy classes anyway.
I don't know if I could be taking more philosophy classes without dropping my history major, even if I wanted to.
